Faithful to The Squeeze
A few years ago, before unlimited data was the norm, AT&T had a commercial promoting unlimited data for their customers. In the commercial, a group of children are asked if more is better than less. A little girl attempts to explain why more is always better and does so in a very funny way but makes no sense. The commercial offers insight into our desire to want more of a good thing even if we already have enough.
If you know me personally you know, I love food. I like trying new recipes and I’m a flavor guru. I pick up on the faintest spices and fully enjoy bold and strong flavors. Lemon is an amazing flavor enhancer. When I am out eating, what sticks out to me is when I see a lemon not being used to its fullest potential. You may have seen this before too. For instance, someone is having fish or maybe even making lemonade and they barely squeeze the lemon for its juice and then look for MORE lemon. I see so much more use for the lemon but it’s been tossed and now the diner is looking for the next lemon.
Just like lemons, we ask God for more but we haven’t squeezed out all we can from what has already been given. We ask God to give us more resources, more opportunities, or more influence before fully utilizing what we already have. We may think that we are being faithful to what He's already given, but sometimes we are wasteful with what we already have. Maybe because our "lemon" wasn’t producing enough juice or didn't seem to have potential, so we felt it wasn’t good enough. Or maybe because there were too many seeds, we didn’t want to deal with the hassle of having to work through it.
Are you squeezing EVERYTHING out of what God has given you to steward over this season? Whatever your lemons are, are you willing to be faithful and get ALL of the "juice" that God has placed in them? It may take hard work and maximum effort but remain faithful to whatever God has placed in your hands to do in this season. The juice IS worth the squeeze!
