True Value

I took a trip to Costa Rica a few years ago and it was BEAUTIFUL. One of the adjustments I had to get used to was the currency and language. I wasn’t fluent in Spanish nor did I understand the value of their currency. I often relied on those I traveled with and at times the cashier or vendor for guidance on the value of what I had.

In listening to Just Want You by Travis Greene I listened to the lyrics take everything lord. I don’t want it, I don’t need it. As I sang the song I began to question myself saying "Wait a second do I really mean that??" Some things I do want and some things I do need. I felt conflicted at that moment. Sure I loved God, but how could I willingly give up what I had in exchange for God. I mean you could be thinking to yourself God is always better than anything & while that is true take a second and think about it. Are you willingly ready to give up your well-paying job, your friends, your creature comforts in exchange for a God you have never seen?

Like my experience in Costa Rica, if you don’t recognize the value of what you have it’s easy to undervalue it for something that can’t compare. In this season, I’m learning and understanding the true value of having Christ in my life. The creature comforts are just that comfort and in our fickle ways can only provide temporary comfort. They do not provide stability in the way the Rock of Ages does. No matter the year, Christ is and will always be reliable. Creature comforts don’t give you peace, like the Prince of Peace can do for you. Having Christ will have others wondering how you are maintaining in a hell-filled situation with total peace.

With Christ in your life, you are and will always be rooted and planted. During this holiday season, take time to pause and reflect on the most valuable gift you can ever receive, God's love.
